That’s impossible.”

I stand but quickly sit back down on the bench when the grass underneath me seems to sway unsteadily. The park is filling with people now. Families with small children, balloons and presents in their arms despite the cold weather.

“It’s true, Hardin is Christian’s son,” Kimberly says, her blue eyes bright and focused.

“But Ken . . . Hardin looks just like him.” I remember the first time I met Ken Scott, inside a yogurt shop. I immediately knew he was Hardin’s father; his dark hair and his height brought me to the easy conclusion.

“Does he? I don’t really see it, except the hair color. Hardin has the same eyes as Christian, the same facial structure.”

Does he? I struggle to picture the three faces. Christian has dimples like Hardin and the same eyes . . . but it just doesn’t make sense: Ken Scott is Hardin’s father—he has to be. Christian looks so young compared to Ken. I know they’re the same age, but Ken’s alcoholism took its toll on his appearance. He’s still a handsome man, but you can see where the liquor has aged him.

“This is . . .” I struggle for words and air.

Kimberly looks at me apologetically. “I know. I’ve wanted to tell you so bad. I hated keeping this from you, but it wasn’t my place.” She puts her hand on mine and squeezes gently. “Christian assured me that as soon as Trish gave him permission, he would tell Hardin.”

“I just . . .” I take a deep breath. “That’s what Christian is doing? Telling Hardin now?” I stand up again and Kimberly’s hand drops away. “I have to go to him. He is going to—” I can’t even begin to fathom how Hardin will react to the news, especially after finding Trish and Christian together last night. This will be too much for him.

“He is.” Kim sighs. “Trish hasn’t agreed fully, but Christian said she was close enough and things were getting out of hand.”

As I pull out my phone, my only thought is that I can’t believe Trish would hide this from Hardin. I had thought more of her, much more as a mother, and now I feel as if I’ve never met the woman.

My phone is already pressed to my cheek, Hardin’s line ringing in my ear, when Kimberly says, “I told Christian that he shouldn’t separate you two when he told Hardin, but Trish recommended that if he does it, he needed to do it alone . . .” Kimberly’s mouth presses into a hard line, and she looks around the park, then up at the sky.

I reach the dull tone of the automated system on Hardin’s voicemail. I dial again while Kimberly sits silently, only to get his voicemail for the second time. I shove my phone into my back pocket and start wringing my hands. “Can you take me to him, Kimberly? Please?”

“Yes. Of course.” She jumps to her feet, calling for Smith.

Watching the little kid walk toward us with what I can only call a cartoon butler’s stride, it occurs to me that Smith is Christian’s son . . . and Hardin’s brother. Hardin has a little brother. And then I think about Landon . . . what does it mean for Landon and Hardin? Will Hardin want anything to do with him now that he doesn’t have a real family tie to him? And Karen, what about sweet Karen and her baked goods? Ken—what about the man who tries so hard to make up for the terrible childhood of a boy who isn’t his son. Does Ken know? My head is spinning, and I need to see Hardin. I need to make sure that he knows I am here for him, and we will figure this out together. I can’t imagine how he feels right now; he must be so overwhelmed.

“Does Smith know?” I ask.

After a few beats of silence, Kimberly says, “We thought he did because of the way he is with Hardin, but he couldn’t possibly.”

I feel for Kimberly. She already had to deal with her fiancé’s infidelity, and now this. When Smith gets to us, he stops and gives us a mysterious look, as if knowing exactly what we’ve been talking about. That’s not possible, but the way he leaves ahead of us and goes to the car without saying a word, it does make me wonder.

As we drive through Hampstead to find Hardin and his father, the panic in my chest rises and falls, rises and falls.

Unpleasantly surprised...

I read all the previous books in this series. I felt that they were well written and their love story and heartbreak pulled you into the character's emotions. However, I feel that the last book, After Every Happy was disappointing. Their story has huge time gaps and the end was rushed. I rather had read about their coming together and how they survived their distant relationship. I would've liked to read about their life together and how they finally agreed to get married, instead of a quick sentence of "3 years later and they were married!"

I was surprised of the predictable ending with no "meat" in between.

Read the series first on wattpad and needed closure. Emailed the author, Anna Todd, and she quickly responded that the published version had an entirely different ending. So glad I purchased. Perfect ending. Loved this series!

Very upset that we don't know if Tessa n Hardin ever marry... NO WEDDING!!!! Does Tessa follow her mothers footsteps n never married? Tessa n Hardin have kids but we don't know anything throughout the pregnancy or childbirth! Also, who does Landon marry????? Would have been nice if Tessa's Mom n Hardin would have had a heart to heart talk. Very disappointed in this last book of the series!!!!!

He has dimples, claims a ninth-grade education, married his legal wife when she was 14, enjoys a beer now and then, plays a mean guitar, reportedly packs a 9mm Glock and keeps an arsenal of military assault rifles, and willingly admits that he is a sinner without equal." – The opening passage of "The Sinful Messiah", published in the Waco Tribune-Herald on February 27, 1993

In February 1993, President Bill Clinton had only been in office for a few weeks when one of the most important events of his presidency began to take shape. Ironically, it would involve a group that the vast majority of Americans had never heard of and knew absolutely nothing about.

The Branch Davidians were an obscure religious sect located in Texas, but members of the group led by David Koresh in Waco, Texas stockpiled enough weaponry to catch the attention of the federal government. The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) ultimately decided to serve arrest and search warrants at the compound for the possession of illegal weapons, even though they fully expected it would require a raid that could potentially turn fatal.

The ATF hoped to use the element of surprise when it commenced the raid on February 28, but the Branch Davidians were ready for them, which led to an intense firefight between the two sides that resulted in the deaths of 4 ATF agents and a number of Branch Davidians. With that, the FBI got involved, and federal agents settled in for a standoff that would last about 50 days, trying everything from negotiating to using sleep deprivation tactics to coerce the Branch Davidians into ending the confrontation. Finally, on April 19, government agents breached the compound’s walls and tried to use gas to flush the Branch Davidians out peacefully, but a series of fires broke out and quickly spread, killing the vast majority of the occupants inside, including many young children.

Naturally, controversy spread over how the siege ended; for example, while most believe the Branch Davidians intentionally started the fires as part of a mass suicide, others insist it was the fault of the ATF. Debate also raged over whether the government could have and should have made different decisions to defuse the situation.

No matter which side people came down on, the violent confrontation embarrassed government officials, and Dick Morris, an advisor of Clinton’s, even claimed that Attorney General Janet Reno only kept her job after Waco by threatening to pin the blame on the president: "[H]e went into a meeting with her, and he told me that she begged and pleaded, saying that . . . she didn't want to be fired because if she were fired it would look like he was firing her over Waco. And I knew that what that meant was that she would tell the truth about what happened in Waco. Now, to be fair, that's my supposition. I don't know what went on in Waco, but that was the cause. But I do know that she told him that if you fire me, I'm going to talk about Waco."

In addition to influencing how the government approached potential future conflicts with other groups, Waco’s most important legacy was that it enraged people who already had an anti-government bent. The most notable, of course, was Timothy McVeigh, who conducted what was at the time the deadliest terrorist attack in American history in Oklahoma City on the second anniversary of the final confrontation at Waco.

Everything you ever wanted to know about The Waco Siege that the news people didn't tell you. Interesting and worth reading to understand what happened. I'd recommend Charles River Editors books because they are concise and full of information. With not a bunch of fluff to fill pages.

Witty Robert Ely poems inspired by the great Mose T.

Paintings by Mose Tolliver, the key folk art painter from Alabama, who is one of America's greatest living treasures, inspired this gem of a book of poems by Robert Ely. The 8" 1/4-by 8 1/4" volume, published in Alabama by Black Belt Press, includes a brief introduction by Julian Bond. Twenty of Mose T's best known images are finely illustrated here in color, alongside the witty poems they inspired. Featured in the book are the fanciful inhabitants of the town of Slapout, among them the "Hoodoo Man...who learned his art from Kulba Khan," the "Jick-Jack Girl...who "kicks off her shoes when she begins to feel the blues" and "Mose t" himself, the artist who "paints pictures made with real paint...and many folks find them quaint."

Nina Baym (Ph.D. Harvard) is Swanlund Endowed Chair and Center for Advanced Study Professor Emerita of English and Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is the author of The Shape of Hawthorne’s Career; Woman’s Fiction: A Guide to Novels by and About Women in America, 1820–1870; Novels, Readers, and Reviewers: Responses to Fiction in Antebellum America; American Women Writers and the Work of History, 1790–1860; American Women of Letters and the Nineteenth-Century Sciences and most recently, Women Writers of the American West, 1833–1927. Some of her essays are collected in Feminism and American Literary History; she has also edited and introduced many reissues of work by earlier American women writers, from Judith Sargent Murray through Kate Chopin. In 2000 she received the MLA’s Hubbell Medal for lifetime achievement in American literary studies.

Robert S. Levine (Ph.D. Stanford) is Distinguished University Professor of English and Distinguished Scholar-Teacher at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is the author of Conspiracy and Romance: Studies in Brockden Brown, Cooper, Hawthorne, and Melville; Martin Delany, Frederick Douglass, and the Politics of Representative Identity; and Dislocating Race and Nation: Episodes in Nineteenth-Century American Literary Nationalism. Mary Loeffelholz (Ph.D. Yale) is�Professor of English and Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at Northeastern University. Maria Pavesi, PhD, is Professor of English language and Linguistics at the University of Pavia. She has coordinated several national and international research projects and has published widely on language learning, audiovisual translation and the features of spoken language in film dubbing, including personal and spatial deixis.
Maicol Formentelli, PhD, is researcher in English language and Linguistics at the University of Eastern Piedmont. His main research interests are native and non-native varieties of English with a more recent focus on the sociolinguistics and pragmatics of film dialogue.

Wizard and Glass, the fourth episode in King's white-hot Dark Tower series, is a sci-fi/fantasy novel that contains a post-apocalyptic Western love story twice as long. It begins with the series' star, world-weary Roland, and his world-hopping posse (an ex-junkie, a child, a plucky woman in a wheelchair, and a talking dog-like pet named Oy the Bumbler) trapped aboard a runaway train. The train is a psychotic multiple personality that intends to commit suicide with them at 800 m.p.h.--unless Roland and pals can outwit it in a riddling contest.

It's a great race, for the mind and pulse. Movies should be this good. Then comes a 567-page flashback about Roland at age 14. It's a well-marbled but meaty tale. Roland and two teen homies must rescue his first love from the dirty old drooling mayor of a post-apocalyptic cowboy town, thwart a civil war by blowing up oil tanks, and seize an all-seeing crystal ball from Rhea, a vampire witch. The love scenes are startlingly prominent and earthier than most romance novels (they kiss until blood trickles from her lip).

After an epic battle ending in a box canyon to end all box canyons, we're back with grizzled, grown-up Roland and the train-wreck survivors in a parallel world: Kansas in 1986, after a plague. The finale is a weird fantasy takeoff on The Wizard of Oz. Some readers will feel that the latest novel in King's most ambitious series has too many pages--almost 800--but few will deny it's a page-turner.

We find Roland, the knight errant/gunslinger, continuing his quest to attain the Dark Tower, the source of destructive forces in his Mid-World. A major portion of this work is a recounting by Roland of his ill-fated love affair with Susan Delgado. The writing is expectedly imaginative, the story line engrossing, and the characters vivid. The listener is carried along through alternating Western, urban, and futuristic settings. The work stands on its own, incorporating a summary of Books 1-3, but will be better appreciated if listened to as part of the whole. The fourth volume in King's protean fantasy saga, The Dark Tower, doesn't advance its heroes' journey to that edifice much from where The Waste Lands (1992) left them, but at least it gets them out of the fix they were in and primed to get into another. The book's 720 pages are mostly devoted to a flashback in which principal protagonist Roland of Mid-World relates his initial exploits--at 14--as a gunslinger. Those adventures involved plenty of mayhem and also his first, ultimately disastrous love affair. King acknowledges in an afterword that it took him a long time to write this story because he was not confident of his ability to write of "the heat and passion of seventeen [sic]." Many may feel his mistrust was well placed, for the romantic stuff is rather a yawn. Unfortunately, the blazing action that succeeds it is hackneyed stuff typical of movie and TV westerns--strictly intentionally, though, for Roland's world of origin is a post^-nuclear holocaust culture that has reverted to earlier ways, including those of knightly chivalry and pistol-packin' cowboys. Still, King is the genre fiction writer's genre fiction writer, and the action that is hackneyed here is also, as noted, blazing--brightly. Ray Olson

The Middle of the Best modern epic story

I don't like writing about these books as though they are independent. As I may have said before, to me, this is one story. I have read the Dark Tower in its entirety at least the times counting now. The first time took years. The second all the way through, which I am doing again now. This time on Kindle. Anyway, this volume is my least favorite. It does hold the beginning and the end together, which is what themiddle should do. The story of Susan is just a little too long. But I know why Roland must tell it, and why King had to write it. You might know too. So now on to the next part. I need to finish it before they release the movie they are making as it cannot live up to what is on these pages or what is in my head. There are more worlds than these.

Anyway, I Liked The Book...

There is a lot to commend this book and the author on. From the bending of time, places, our world, other worlds, science, history and fantasy. Needless to say, this isn't a common science fiction book or story.

Generally I would say anyone or everyone would like this story, particularly in light of all the great stuff that lead up to this book 4. Still, this is book 4, so it does "help" to start with book 1. Also you get more out of this if you have at least explored some of our own history, music, places, basically life. References to all these thing (music quite a bit) all make this a better story... if know the reference. If not, still good, just better if you do. You all do know who ZZ Top is and their song Velcro Fly... right?

Also I believe you have to either read this as just light, pre-movie fluff or (as I recommend) a true classic foundation of science fiction that crosses the various genres and strikes deep philosophical cords in the meaning of our lives, place that technology holds on or with us, the matter of cause and effect of our actions or of others and many more deeper meanings.

This is my third time reading this series and it hasn’t gotten stale. In fact, with each reading it’s getting better (if that’s possible). Next to The Stand, this series is my favorite SK. There’s no one better at weaving a complex story than SK and The Dark Tower is just that – complex, moving, exciting, terrifying and extremely sad. A majority of the series is set in a fictional world very much like our own and there are “thin” spots where one is able to go between our world and Roland’s world.

**SPOILER**

Roland recounts his youth one evening by the camp fire. His drawn three Susannah, Eddie, Jake plus the billy bumbler Oy are his rapt audience. The story of Susan Delgado and Roland’s youth is like a book within a book and could easily stand on its own. Roland is a newly crowned gunslinger at age 14 and he’s sent away by his father (along with his two best friends Cuthbert and Alain) to the safety of a small village in the west. When the trio arrives they find treachery brewing and Roland finds his first love, the beautiful Susan. Roland is introduced to the Dark Tower via a magic pink glass ball and his quest begins.
The loss that Roland suffers at his young age definitely helps shape him into the man he becomes.

AMAZING Book! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I don't ever write reviews, but i will for this book, because it DESERVES it! Be You, Be Great was a phenomenal book about creating the best version of yourself. Antonio explains how to find your purpose and how to take action on that purpose. He explains how to find and bring out that greatness that's already inside you. Everybody is great in their own way, but many of us don't understand how to bring out that greatness. He explains and distinguishes what relationships will help you make the most out of yourself, as well as the things that could be holding you back from achieving your full potential. He does exactly what he says he will by helping you unleash your own unique greatness through helping you find your gift, giving you more clarity, more focus, more power in your everyday life, and most importantly, more freedom for yourself! This book will take you to the next level in relationships, life, and business. This book has honestly changed my life and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone! Thanks Antonio!

Be You, Be Great! is an amazing book for anyone looking to find inspiration in today's world. For those of you that are new to Antonio, his story is absolutely inspiring. It reminds us that anything is possible if you are willing to believe in yourself and take action! Unlike most mainstream authors, he does not define greatness by material possessions. Greatness is allowing yourself to be the best you possible. If you're not happy where you find yourself, change it. I truly appreciate Antonio for writing this book and allowing us a transparent view into his life. You are literally saving lives by your testimony. It is my prayer that God continues to bless you and open more doors for you to share how He has blessed your life. Be You, Be Great is an inspiring and motivational book! Whether your looking to your take Real Estate business to the next Level or Simply just looking for pure motivation this is the book for you. I'm glad Antonio decided to share his story and be someone that can be looked upon for strength and motivation be simply sharing his story and providing key principles to live by in his book Be You,Be Great!
